FAQ
Why do private posts fail?
Nothing here bypasses privacy. Only content that is publicly visible can be resolved. For your own account, the server can be given an IG_SESSIONID cookie, which limits access to exactly what that account can already see.
Why does the download go through the server?
Meta CDN hosts do not send CORS headers and reject requests without the right referer, so the browser cannot fetch them directly. The server streams the file back and forces a Save dialog.
Do links expire?
Yes. CDN urls are signed and time-limited — usually a few hours. If a download 403s, resolve the post again to get a fresh url.
Where do files go on a phone?
On Android they land in Downloads. On iOS they go to Files → Downloads, not the Photos app — open the file there and use Share → Save Image/Video to move it into your camera roll. Downloads are handed to the OS download manager on mobile, so large videos never have to fit in browser memory.
Why does it say to open the page in a browser?
The Instagram and Facebook in-app browsers block file downloads outright. Use the ••• or ⋮ menu and pick "Open in browser" — Safari, Chrome and Firefox all work.
Is anything stored?
No media is written to disk. Resolved metadata sits in an in-memory cache for five minutes, and your recent list lives only in your browser localStorage.
Can I use this on downloaded content freely?
No. Downloading is for content you own or have permission to use. Redistributing someone else’s media without their consent may break copyright law and the platform terms of service.
